I have two computers both on Windows XP, now running Mandrake 10.1 Official. I can access the Internet only in Windoze tho.
Of all the luck! Both computers have non linux ethernet cards and non linux wireless cards (You'd think I could score 1 out of the 4)
Computer 1 - Desktop Celeron 2GB, on ASUS P4P800SE m/board
1.5 GB DDR 400 RAM
hda WD 60GB HDD(hda1, hda2) (WinXP)
hdb Seagate 120GB hdb (5 partitions)
MDK has own 20.9GB partition on hdb
Ethernet Realtek RTL8139 Family PCI fast Ethernet NIC
Ethernet Realtek RTL8180 Wireless LAN(mini)PCNIC#3
Computer 2 - Laptop NEC VERSA E400 Celeron 1.6GB
256 DDR RAM CDRW/DVD combo 56K and 10/100 modem
Hda1 30GB - MDK 10.1 Official only
Onboard SiS.900-Based PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter 802.3
PCMCIA Wireless Card SMC 2635W 2.4Ghz 11mps
In a previous discussion on another topic (Mandrake 10.1 won't open files) Franki mentioned I could use NDIS Warpper to read the Windows drivers for the ethernet cards to allow Internet connection.
I went to the NDIS site and it says that MDK has NDIS Wrapper included in the distro but I have old NDIS Wrapper version inside MDK already and should replace it with new version.
How do I do this? (blow by blow account would be appreciated)
With 2 other "povo geeks", we are learning Mandrake and I will have to explain the process to them - (sadly you got the dimmest one who has the best Internet connection).
