Jeff Barr announces that Syndic8 (one of my favorite web places) is co-sponsoring the Blog Business Summit in Seattle later this month. This article explains the explosive growth potential for blogs as the underlying content management system. We see the potential … and wish we could attend. Blogs are also rapidly advancing the RSS explosion on the web.
Firefox has added live bookmarks as a great new feature to allow readers of your site to stay abreast of the latest news and postings via RSS feeds. If you see a little orange button to the very bottom right of your Firefox browser, then you can subscribe. This tutorial tells you how to enable your site for live bookmarks so that surfers to your site can subscribe to your RSS content with a few simple clicks.
According to this article at NetCraft, the Comment Spammers (read slugs and bums), have become so prevalent that some ISP’s are disabling comments in Moveable Type because of load on the server. There are unique rebuild issues that make MT more prone to server drag than some other types of blog software apparently. A rapid fix is proposed.
We have typically choosen WordPress for our blogging (or sometimes poorboys free CMS — or Content Management System if you prefer — solution), comment spam has caused bandwidth drain and headaches for us as well. With the newest release of WordPress, 1.2.2 as of yesterday, spam relief is still not built in. They do in the release announcement offer several solutions. We have in fact used one of those solutions (after some improvements by us) to hopefully eliminate the issue for the time being.

This article is a must read! This guy Mike Davidson just participated in a major redesign of the ABC News Site. The breadth and wisdom is so significant that I have included this post in six of my blog categories (general, web design, css, html, news, rss).
I recently updated to Thunderbird 0.8 from http://mozilla.org. One of the great new features they have added is RSS support. If you click on:
“tools” -> “account settings” -> “add” button and then select “RSS news and blogs”. From there is it pretty self explanatory. I set mine to check my favourite blogs regularly and essentially get email style notice of new blog postings. For some where I like to stay on top of comments I also added the comment RSS. Give it a whirl, you’ll be happy you did. If you would like to follow our articles via this method, our feed is here:

Gmail Atom Feed Coming? is an article Franki pointed out to me today. An intriguing idea I guess.
Franki is using Thunderbird now for RSS feeds and I am starting to use the bookmarking feature for RSS in the new FireFox 1.x release.
Gmail invites meanwhile have become much easier to get as all new users are apparently given six invitations within days of “joining”. If you do the math, it is like the Kevin Bacon Game, it don’t take long for everyone to have one I guess.
