Mozilla and Opera have had popup blockers in their browsers for ages, and any user of Windows XP SP2 also have a popup blocker as part of the update to IE6 that SP2 contained. It seems enterprising souls have found a way around the blockers that enables them to continue using popup and popunder ads to collect revenue. The drudge report is one such site.
Ironically I got the popup myself the last time I visited in Firefox, but figured it wasn’t anything new and that I must have triggered it by clicking on something. Turns out I was right… and wrong. The new method involves having the popup triggered by the user following a link, so in essence, the browsers think that it was a user triggered action. So you get the content you wanted, but you also get a popunder ad.
